Taipei, Feb. 2 (CNA) Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) said the company plans to expand its presence in Taiwan, citing the rapid growth of its supply chain, as he departed the country on Monday after a five-day visit.

"We are hiring a lot of engineers here because our supply chain is growing very large," Huang told reporters at Taipei Songshan Airport.

When asked about plans to set up an Nvidia headquarters in southern Taiwan, he said the company already has an office in Kaohsiung, but most engineers are based in Taipei. He added that any large office should be located where the engineers are concentrated.

Huang noted that while Nvidia used to focus solely on graphics processing units (GPUs), it now also produces central processing units (CPUs), networking chips, switches, and a wide range of other complex products.

"I'm very happy with the expertise we have here," he said, praising Taiwan's workforce for their hard work and long tenure at Nvidia.

"We are going to open our big site here and I'm hoping we can expand even more than that," Huang added.

The CEO also said that on his next visit to Taiwan, he plans to show the media Nvidia's new building design, declining to reveal details on this occasion.

Reiterating his earlier remarks about returning for Computex Taipei in June, Huang said he will deliver a keynote speech and unveil several new announcements at the event.

"It's going to be a very exciting Computex this year," he said.
