On Mar. 14, the 2026 Luxembourg City Film Festival announced that “The Clouds Are Two Thousand Meters Up (雲在兩千米),” a virtual reality (VR) film by Taiwanese director Singing Chen (陳芯宜), won the Best Immersive Experience award in its Immersive Pavilion.
Adapted from the eponymous short story by acclaimed Taiwanese author Wu Ming-yi (吳明益), “The Clouds Are Two Thousand Meters Up” is a single-user, free-roaming VR experience that blends literature and memory into an intimate exploration of love, loss, and self-reflection. The work received the Grand Prize in the Venice Immersive section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
Supported by the Taiwan Cultural Center in France, Chen attended Immersive Day, the festival’s opening event, on March 3. Bettina Steinbrügge, Director of the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art (Mudam), praised Chen for the creativity showcased in the film. Chen also participated in a panel alongside Jordana Leigh, Vice President of Artistic Programming at Lincoln Center, where she spoke about her filmmaking journey.
Chen Hung-hsing (陳宏星), Director of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, noted that Luxembourg has been actively promoting international co-productions in recent years and expressed hope for deeper exchanges with local arts institutions.
