The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is assessing the possibility of setting up a special zone in India to help Taiwan's companies tap into the vast potential of the country's market, according to the MOEA's Industrial Development and Investment Center.

According to center officials, two of Taiwan's corporations have recently decided to invest about US$6 million in India after returning from a market inspection tour of the country that was organized by the MOEA. The 130-member delegation was led by Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Shih Yen-shiang, they noted.

The MOEA has also set up cooperation channels with universities in India, through which it hopes to recruit talented professionals for Taiwan's high-tech sector, the officials said.
