Hsu told a press conference that the foreign runners came from countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Hungary, Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
He said the city government invited world-class long-distance runners to the race, including Bernard Mutai from Kenya, Oksana K. Lokhlove from Russia, and China's medal-winning female marathoner Hu Xiuying.
The race started at 6 a.m. April 15 at the plaza in front of the Tainan city government building. The event was divided into four categories: the 42.2-km marathon, the 21.1-km half marathon, the 10-km race and the 3-km leisure run.
