January 28th, the Jersey Shore Chinese School (JSCS) & Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) in New Jersey held a performance to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. More than 500 of teachers, students, parents, VIPs and community members gathered at the Bell Works in Holmdel to celebrate this event together.  The scene was well decorated with joy, and the school prepared calligraphy bookmarks, as well as red envelopes and lucky bags provided by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) to distribute to the public.

Lisa Albero and Cindy Chiang, the JSCS principal and the TCML director, gave opening remarks. They appreciated the OCAC and the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY) for their sponsor. They thank Holmdel Township and Bell Works for their support as well. Cindy Chiang announced the great news that JSCS-TCML was awarded as top 2 of the 45 TCMLs in the world by OCAC. She told the public that they can sign up for JSCS & TCML classes on site. Now, the whole family can come to Jersey Shore Chinese School and Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning Chinese to learn Mandarin and Taiwan culture at the same time. Rocco Impreveduto, Deputy-Mayor of Holmdel, wished everyone a Happy New Year of Rabbit. He presented the official proclamation of appreciation to JSCS & TCML to thank the school for its contribution and dedication in Holmdel for more than 40 years. The annual Lunar New Year celebration has become a traditional celebration for the residents of Holmdel.

The celebration was hosted by Jasmine Lee and Karen Shih. First, the lion dance team kicked off, with the majestic sound of drum. Next, following by the great sound of music, the dragon team ran to the stage. Everyone applauded and cheered for them. The folk dance team performed 3 beautiful programs including Green Mountain Dance, Synthesis Dance and Horseback Riding Dance. The yo-yo team presented “Rotating the Universe”. The language classes performed“the Rabit Dance”&“What a Beautiful World”to celebrate the year of Rabbit. Then, it is JSCS tradition that Mrs. Chuni Li led the VIP guests to dance the Flash Mob, You are My Flowers. Paul Dawson, the champion in the TCML Group of the "2022 Singing Competition for Overseas Compatriot School Students and Overseas Compatriot Students Studying in Taiwan", led all the teachers and students of the JSCS-TCML to sing "Friends".

Many VIP guests were present and enjoyed the celebration, including New Jersey Assemblywoman Vicky Flynn, New Jersey Assemblyman Dr. Gerry Scharfenberger, Monmouth County Commissioner Lillian Burry, Deputy Mayor of Holmdel Rocco Impreveduto, Committeeman Greg Buontempo, Brian Foster, Kim LaMountain, superintendent Dr. Scott Cascone, assistant superintendent Arthur Howard, and Holmdel School district Board of Education members Peter Reddy, Terence Wall, Eilleen Briamonte, Linda Zhang, Jeff Mann, Heritage Committee Chiung-Yin Cheng Liu, President of Association of Chinese Schools Nelson Tai, President of the Association of New Jersey Chinese Schools  Justine Hsieh, President of Chinese American Cultural Association Chiao-wei Lee, Principle of Monmouth Fidelity Chinese School Herbert Gordon.

At the end of the celebration, everyone greeted each other to welcome the coming of the Jade Rabbit Year.
