The longstanding collaboration between Songsan High School of Commerce and Home Economics (SSVS,松山家商) and the Washington DC Taiwanese School (WDCTS) reached a new milestone with their latest Virtual Hangout event. This initiative, which has been connecting students from Taiwan and the United States for the past five years, continues to foster cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
The recent event, held on November 8th, focused on the topic of "Climate Differences in the US vs. Taiwan." The meeting began with opening remarks, where participants were introduced, and the rules and agenda were outlined. Students were then divided into breakout rooms, with roughly 5-6 Taiwan students paired with 1-2 US students. This setup facilitated in-depth discussions and allowed for a more personalized exchange of ideas. Students were encouraged to create and share their own slides on the topic, enhancing the interactive nature of the event.
In a significant development, the project has now been extended to include more students across the US from the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA) chapters in Washington DC, Boston, and San Diego. This expansion will allow a greater number of students to participate in these enriching discussions and cultural exchanges, further enhancing their educational experiences.
The success of this event is a testament to the strong working relationship between SSVS and WDCTS. Over the past five years, their Virtual Hangout project has provided a platform for students from both schools to engage in meaningful discussions on various topics, ranging from cultural traditions to global issues. This ongoing partnership has been instrumental in enhancing the educational experiences of the students involved, allowing them to gain new perspectives and develop valuable communication skills.
As they look to the future, there is great anticipation for the continued growth and success of this remarkable partnership. The dedication and commitment shown by both schools ensure that their collaboration will continue to provide enriching educational opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
