On November 14th and 15th, students from Mount View Middle School in Marriottsville, Maryland, participated in two cultural tour events at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington DC. The activities were led by two teachers, Nicki Chen and Ming- Hsi Chang, who introduced the students to the rich traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival and various Taiwanese crafts. The teachers engaged the students with lively and interactive presentations on the unique aspects of Taiwanese Mid-Autumn culture and the deity Tudigong (土地公; Lord of the Land.) They organized group competitions where students eagerly answered questions to win a variety of popular Taiwanese snacks, including pineapple cakes, rice crackers, sun cakes, and cream puffs. The students enjoyed the treats.

Over the two days, the students also participated in hands-on craft sessions, that included painting reusable cups, and creating clay mooncake gift boxes. Additionally, they experienced a tea-scenting activity and a Taiwanese fruit blind-tasting quiz, which added to the fun and excitement. The cultural teachers also took the opportunity to introduce accompanying teachers and parents to authentic Taiwanese high mountain tea, offering a taste of traditional Taiwanese tea ceremonies. The students expressed their enthusiasm for the cultural tour and look forward to future visits.
