The 2025 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) opened at the Taipei World Trade Center on Feb. 4. President Lai Ching-te attended the opening event, along with Minister of Culture Li Yuan, Taipei Book Fair Foundation Chairperson Isabella Wu Yun-yi (吳韻儀), Representative Marco Lombardi of the Italian Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei, and other distinguished guests.

During the ceremony, President Lai remarked that educating oneself through reading is the best investment one can make, encouraging the public to visit the TiBE. Additionally, he invited attendees to explore the diverse cultures showcased by exhibitors from 29 countries.

President Lai also highlighted the expansion of MOC’s Culture Points initiative, which previously covered ages 16 to 22, to now include youths aged 13 to 15. This expansion aims to foster a supportive environment for young people to engage in reading, purchasing books, and attending cultural events.

Introducing this year’s Guest of Honor Italy, Minister Li emphasized that Italian culture, from the Renaissance to neorealist films, has significantly influenced Taiwanese culture. He noted that 11 Italian authors have been invited to the exhibition to exchange ideas with readers in Taiwan.

Furthermore, the 2025 TiBE Book Prize and the Golden Butterfly Award ceremonies were held during the exhibition’s opening, with President Lai presenting awards to the recipients.

Running until Feb. 9, the 2025 TiBE has attracted 504 publishing houses from 29 countries. Through a diverse range of themed pavilions, the exhibition aims to showcase the richness of Taiwan’s publishing industry and inspire book lovers across the country to explore the world of reading.
