Taiwanese special forces to be featured on Discovery Channel Taipei, Oct. 23 (CNA) Taiwan's special forces will be featured in a three-episode program produced by Discovery Channel that will have its Taiwan premiere next week, the channel said Friday.
The program will feature stories about the rigorous training that soldiers in the Navy's special service company and the Army's paratroopers have to undergo, Discovery Channel said in a statement.
The program will be aired in Taiwan every Monday, with the first episode broadcast Oct. 26, it said. The program will also be broadcast in other countries in Asia starting from November, it added.
The production team spent eight months following the training regimens of the two military units, the statement said.
Viewers will get a glimpse of the Navy special service company's training, including unarmed combat, fieldcraft, long-range shooting, rappelling and other skills, the channel said. Also featured in the program is the unit's counter-terrorism training at sea.
"Looking at my father, who was a former special forces member, made me want to catch up with him and perform better than him," said one member of the special service company.
"It not only consumes your physical strength but also your perseverance," another member said of the hard-core training.
The third and final episode will feature the training of the Army's paratroopers, which is also a big challenge for the trainees' physical strength, will and coordination abilities.
It is the second program produced by Discovery Channel featuring Taiwan's military, following one produced in 2013 that introduced Taiwan's amphibious reconnaissance team (frogmen), underwater operations unit -- responsible for removing and deploying mines, as well as for ship maintenance -- and army rangers.
As a promotional event for the new program, the channel said it is running an exhibition, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense, in the plaza of the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from Friday to Sunday, where various military equipment and vehicles are on display.

Discovery頻道繼2013年推出「台灣特戰部隊」，再度與國防部合作拍攝「台灣特戰部隊2」系列節目，首次揭露俗稱黑衣部隊的海軍陸戰隊特勤隊，以及專職高空滲透的空降特戰部隊神龍小組訓練過程。
「台灣特戰部隊2」在中正紀念堂自由廣場舉辦首映記者會，總統馬英九、國防部長高廣圻等人蒞臨，黑衣部隊實地表演格鬥戰技。
「台灣特戰部隊2」是3集節目，26日晚間10時在Discovery頻道首播，其他兩集為11月2、9日播出；Discovery並於日前在中正紀念堂民主廣場展出「2015特戰部隊體驗展」。
馬總統表示，很高興透過鏡頭，讓全世界看到中華民國特戰部隊嚴格的訓練與精實戰力。募兵制去年開始就超過需求，去年要求1萬500人，來了3萬人報名；今年招募1萬5000人，來了3萬人，這表示社會的新兵招募成效不錯。志願役留營意願原4成多，到目前為止達72%，人力方面逐漸改善。
總統表示，43年前他也是陸戰隊員，受訓時長官要他們永遠記住，「一日陸戰隊，終身陸戰隊」，訓練2週後，有人說，「一日陸戰隊，終身掉眼淚」，之後體力有進步，3個月下來，有人說，「天啊，我作夢不會想到可以一口氣跑完5000公尺」，開始有人感受軍隊訓練打造終身健康的標準。
總統表示，這就是男孩變男人的過程，真正拿起槍桿，執干戈以衛社稷，這是成長過程。他感謝陸戰隊給他的訓練，也鼓勵年輕人加入國軍。(中央社提供)
