Taipei, March 7 (CNA) Corning Incorporated, an American multinational technology company that specializes in glass and ceramics, plans to increase investment in research and development in Taiwan by expanding its Corning Advanced Technology Center in Taipei, the company announced Wednesday.

Corning opened the center in Neihu Technology Park in 2011 and has since invested US$13 million in Taiwan, said center director Connie Wang.

The plan will fulfill Corning's promise to continue investing in Taiwan with the aim of integrating research, development and engineering resources from its branch companies around the world to strength the technical support provided to customers in Asia by using the center as a base, according to Wang.

The facility will serve as a customer-focused engineering and design center in Asia, Wang added.

Corning has two advanced glass manufacturing operations in Taiwan and will continue to expand its research and development as well as technology centers in the country. As a result, it will be able to provide a wider range of support to the local technology industry, from basic research and development to manufacturing, said Daniel Tseng, president at Corning Display Technologies Taiwan Co. Ltd.
