Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) Applicants hoping to get a driver's license for motorcycles in Taiwan will be required to answer more questions designed to simulate actual road conditions in their written tests, with effect from Nov. 1, Minister of Transportation and Communications Wu Hong-mo said Monday.
The move is aimed at improving road safety, Wu said during a legislative session.
The new test will include 10 questions among a total of 50 questions, Wu said.
The questions will cover issues such as the right way to wear a helmet, carry passengers or luggage, and where to stop at traffic lights, according to the ministry.
Driver's license schools will also be required to increase the time devoted to safety lectures from 90 minutes to 120 minutes, Wu said.
Motorcycle traffic accidents account for a significant number of traffic facilities in Taiwan. According to ministry data, there were 1,517 people killed in traffic accidents last year, 913 of whom were either motorcycle riders or passengers.
