Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) Twelve people won the special prize of NT$10 million (US$357,992) in the May-June receipt lottery, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Tuesday.

Among the 12 winners, four spent between NT$65 and NT$300 to win the top prize at 7-Eleven stores, while two other purchases were made at FamilyMart and Pxmart, a supermarket chain in Taiwan.

According to Pxmart, the consumer spent NT$35 on an ice latte to win the NT$10 million top prize.

As for the grand prize of NT$2 million, the MOF said there were also 12 winners.

It said detailed information on the list of winners for the May-June uniform invoice lottery will be published on its website later in the day.

Every two months, the MOF holds draws involving serial numbers of receipts given at retail outlets, known formally as "uniform invoices," and pays different cash prizes for different sequences of winning numbers, from the last three digits to the full eight-digit number.

The goal is to give consumers an incentive to ask for the receipts so that retailers cannot under-declare their income and reduce their taxable income.

The MOF said, meanwhile, that four NT$10 million winning receipts for the March-April lottery still remain unclaimed, and it urged winners to claim the money ahead of the deadline of Sept. 6, 2021.
