Taipei, Dec. 24 (CNA) Another 11 imported COVID-19 cases previously reported by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) have been confirmed as Omicron variant infections, the CECC announced Friday.
The new cases brought the total in the country to 27, of which 23 were confirmed over the past week, CECC official Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said at a daily press briefing.
The 27 cases involved travelers who had entered Taiwan from eight countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, Eswatini, Colombia, Germany, and Nigeria, Lo said.
Arrivals from the United States accounted for the largest number of cases with 12, he added.
He said all 27 patients had been fully vaccinated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had been infected with the disease 4.98 months after their second vaccine dose on average.
Out of those infected, 12 received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, five Moderna, four AstraZeneca, while six received doses from two different brands of vaccine, he added.
While 13 of the patients were asymptomatic, 14 experienced only mild symptoms such as a cough and headache, according to Lo.
