Dunwoody City Government held the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebration at the Stage Door Theatre on May 1. Countries including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam and Laos were invited to take part and set up stalls at the venue to display their cultural characteristics as well as perform dances and skills on stage. Around 500 people attended.
Led by advisers Niou Chung-yi and Tai Nyan-hwa, Formosa Association of Student Culture Ambassadors-Atlanta (FASCA-Atlanta) took part in this community service event. The Dance Group first excited the audience with a dance full of Taiwanese imagery; the Diabolo Group then gave a freestyle diabolo performance that amazed the audience. The Lion Dance Group’s drunken lion, and feeding the lion red envelopes and candy throwing sections that involved interaction with the audience were novel and fun for the audience. Rosemary Watts, Dunwoody Business And Cultural Development Manager, said that this year is the second time the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month has been held. The aim is to hold international cultural activities on various themes to let everyone better understand that there are people with different cultural backgrounds living in the U.S. to encourage tolerance and acceptance.
