Taipei, June 7 (CNA) Taiwanese athlete Hsieh Yuan-kai (謝元愷) finished first in the men's 110 meters hurdles final at the 2023 Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in South Korea Wednesday.

Entering the tournament in Yecheon with two objectives -- to run a personal best and clinch the gold medal -- the young man from National Fengshan Senior Commercial & Industrial Vocational School crossed the line first in 13.44 seconds.

In April, Hsieh set a new U20 national record for the event with a time of 13.41 seconds.

Among Hsieh's seven competitors in the final was compatriot Lin Yi-kai (林翊凱), whose finished fourth in 13.77 seconds.

As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Taiwan team had secured three gold medals, four silver medals and six bronze medals, according to the official tournament website.

The other two Taiwanese gold medalists are Huang Chao-hong (黃潮鴻) and Lo Tzu-chieh (羅子杰), who won the men's javelin on Monday and men's high jump on Wednesday, respectively.
