Taipei, June 23 (CNA) An exhibition of East Asian bird-and-flower paintings by Harsha Dass, the wife of India Taipei Association (ITA) Director-General Gourangalal Das, will take place at the National Central Library (NCL) next month.
"From Strokes to Shapes: My Three-year Brush with Taiwan," will showcase Dass' accomplishments in the genre known as "huaniaohua" (bird-and-flower painting), which she has studied under the tutelage of painter Wang Jyn-tzy (王智子) since arriving in Taiwan in 2020 with her husband.
In a statement released by the ITA, Dass, who is set to leave Taiwan later this year, said the free exhibition represented her "personal tribute" to Taiwan and its people.
"My exhibition of Huaniao paintings is an early harvest of my learning as a student of this genre during my three years in Taiwan, and to partially return the love and opportunity given to me by the kind and friendly Taiwanese people."
"The paintings brought together my love for language, history and the arts, giving me immense joy and peace, and serving as a prism through which I will continue to view and project Taiwan to others," she said.
"As we prepare to bid farewell to this land and its people, they are a personal tribute to you for filling my life with the fragrance of flowers and the chirping of birds," she said.
Besides ink painting, Dass also learned conversational Mandarin in Taiwan, ITA said, adding that she also enjoys photography and likes to explore Taiwan's landscape and its arts.
Professionally, Dass is a senior executive with the Indian Railways responsible for the organization's employees and human resources and served in India's Ministry of Finance before arriving in Taiwan, according to ITA.
She has worked in Delhi and Kolkata in India, and has lived in Beijing and Washington among other cities, ITA added.
"From Strokes to Shapes: My Three-year Brush with Taiwan" will be held at the Gallery of NCL History at the library from July 7 to July 14, except on July 10 when the library will be closed.
