São Paulo, July 11 (CNA) The Atayal Art and Dance Company gave its first performance in Peru on Friday on a tour of the South American country that will last for more than a month.
A lion dance opened the event held at the culture center in San Miguel, a suburban area of the capital Lima, followed by a welcome dance performed by the company's founder Ku Chiu-mei (古秋妹) and Peruvian attendees wearing clothes used by Taiwan's Indigenous tribes.
Ku performed indigenous dances titled "Happy Mind (歡喜心)" and "Taiwan is good (台灣好)" as well as self-choreographed Buddhist dances including one called the "Great Compassion Mantra (大悲咒)."
The group is in the country as part of a cultural exchange between Taiwan and Peru, and Francisca Yu-tsz Chang (張幼慈), head of Taiwan's representative office in Peru, welcomed members of the Atayal Art and Dance Company at the event and praised Ku for her efforts in promoting cultural ties.
