Taipei, Aug. 4 (CNA) Taiwan's undefeated winning streak continued Friday on the second day of the U-12 Baseball World Cup Super Round, downing South Korea 1-0 in Tainan.
The only run in the game came at the bottom of the second inning when Taiwan's second baseman Wang Sheng-rang's (王聖穰) safe play brought first baseman Chiu Ya-en (邱亞恩) home from third.
During the inning, Chiu's hit brought him to second, which was followed by another successful hit from Taiwan's starting pitcher Wang Yu-hsiang (王羽翔) to first.
When it was his turn in the box, Wang Sheng-rang's safe play came in the form of a bunt to bring a run home for Taiwan.
On defense, Wang Yu-hsiang pitched the whole game and frustrated the young Korean players with only one hit throughout six innings.
Meanwhile, South Korean starter Lee Jinwoong restricted Taiwan to only two hits over the five innings he pitched.
South Korea also successfully stole two bases from Wang Yu-hsiang in the top of the second, but were no match for the Taiwanese pitcher.
With South Korea having zero runs after the top of the sixth, the game was called and Taiwan advanced to the World Championship game, following seven consecutive victories since the start of the world cup on July 29.
On Saturday, Taiwan, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, faces baseball powerhouse the United States as a part of the ongoing Super Round at the Asia Pacific International Baseball Complex in Tainan.
Although Taiwan will advance to the World Championship game regardless of the outcome, manager Chen Ming-jen (陳明仁) said he still expects the young players to give their all as the result could still affect match ups for the championship.
