Taipei, Aug. 23 (CNA) The Tainan International Music Festival, which is scheduled to run from Sept. 2 - Oct. 14, will feature 11 musical performances by 10 groups of musicians from Taiwan and the West.
Tainan City Government said in a statement released Wednesday that the venues for the event will include Tainan Cultural Center Performance Hall, where eight of the 11 performances will be held, as well as Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park, Taiwan Poetry Road, Tainan Shanshang Garden and Old Waterworks Museum.
German violinist David Garrett will perform a selection of classic 19th and 20th century musical works with a guitar and bass player at Tainan Cultural Center Performance Hall, while Gautier Capuçon will play Dvořák's "Cello Concerto in b minor Op.104" at the same venue, according to the statement.
Taiwanese violinist Tseng Yu-chien (曾宇謙), who won second prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, will perform "Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35" at Tainan Cultural Center, the city government said.
In addition to classical music, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra will play songs and melodies from Disney animations such as Peter Pan, Moana, Aladdin, Frozen and The Lion King at Tainan Cultural Center, the city government added.
Evergreen Symphony Orchestra will also combine musical performances with scenes from the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on the screen at Tainan Cultural Center, according to the city government.
In addition, French baritone Marc Mauillon, known for his distinctive vocal timbre, will be accompanied by his sister and harpist Angélique in presenting a collection of early Baroque music "Li Due Orfei" from Italy and France at Tainan Cultural Center, the city government said.
At the same venue, the Tainan City Traditional Orchestra, in collaboration with pianist Yen Chun-chieh (嚴俊傑) and liuqin player Rainie Lin (林宸妡), will perform "Contemporary Chinese Music," combining traditional Chinese music with modern elements, the city government added.
At the end of September, three jazz bands will present Latin Jazz and New Orleans Jazz at Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park during lantern festival, while there will be a Japanese-style market fair nearby, according to the city government.
Mugo Music Record Tales Cultural Studio and Cosmos Chamber Orchestra will together perform popular music Taiwanese songs with local poetry at Taiwan Poetry Road, the city government said.
Taipei Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, which is committed to bringing art and music to the public, will perform for parents and children at Tainan Shanshang Garden and Old Waterworks Museum, while program hosts, magicians and other acts entertain as the music plays, the city government added.
