The Taiwanese Merchants Association of Toronto (TMAT) celebrated its 29th anniversary with the Toronto Night Gala and Business Exhibition on June 15th at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel. The event attracted about 400 notable figures from local and international political and business spheres, including second-generation Taiwanese represented by the Young Taiwanese Merchants Association of Toronto (YTMAT).
Ambassador Harry Tseng, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada, commended TMAT for fostering Taiwan-Canada economic and cultural exchanges. He emphasized Taiwan advanced semiconductor and AI technologies andtheir growing global importance, underscoring the significance of Taiwan's participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Several Canadian Members of Parliament (MPs), including Michael Cooper, Ali Ehsassi, Salma Zahid, Shaun Chen, Kevin Vuong, and former MP Bob Saroya, attended the event to show their support for Taiwan, emphasizing shared democratic values between Taiwan and Canada.
The gala event was successful organized by TMAT younger generation of vice presidents and board members. Ishi Wang, president of YTMAT and a candidate for OCAC 2024 International Youth Goodwill Ambassador, also set up a booth at the business exhibition to promote the i-Compatriot Card.
The evening's entertainment included drum performances, K-POP dances, Bachata dances, an Erhu performance by Andy Lin, and Taiwanese pop music by the Tone Lab Music band. The event's climax was the drawing of the grand prize winner for a round- trip ticket between Canada and Taiwan.
