On September 9, 2024, the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning in Ireland (TCML) hosted its second open day event at the Alliance Française in Dublin. Sponsored by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), the event drew numerous participants eager to learn Mandarin Chinese and immerse themselves in Taiwan's culture. The event highlighted TCML’s diverse curriculum and offered an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
The evening began with a warm welcome and an icebreaker session led by Evan Furlong, Director of TCML Ireland. Her professional and enthusiastic approach, combined with Taiwanese bubble tea from Charu Tea Shop, created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to connect and chat.
Following the welcome, TCML student Linda shared her experiences studying in Taiwan over this summer, providing valuable insights into life and learning in Taiwan. Director Liu then led a “Masterclass on Taiwan” workshop, diving into Taiwan’s history, communication, and cross-cultural interactions, enriching participants’ understanding of the country.
Guests were also treated to a tasting of five different homemade mooncakes, offering a delicious glimpse into traditional Mid-Autumn Festival treats and Taiwanese festive culture. A mini lesson and quiz session followed, bringing the event to a lively close, where attendees not only gained new knowledge but also took home exclusive TCML souvenirs.
The event ended on a high note, with enthusiastic feedback from attendees. Many expressed excitement about joining TCML to further explore Taiwan’s language and culture. TCML looks forward to offering more high-quality courses and activities, inviting more people to discover and fall in love with Taiwan.
