Taipei, Feb. 12 (CNA) The annual Dajia pilgrimage of the sea goddess Mazu is set to kick off late night April 4 at Dajia Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung, the event organizer said Wednesday.

The nine-day, eight-night pilgrimage is scheduled to start at 10:45 p.m. April 4 at the temple and end at the same temple on April 13, according to the temple, which organizes the event.

The date and time of the Mazu pilgrimage in 2025 were decided after Yen Ching-piao (顏清標), chairman of the Jenn Lann Temple board, threw two crescent-shaped divining blocks on the ground in front of the statue of Mazu during a ceremony to seek divine guidance for the decision.

Following past practice, the temple held a divination ceremony at the Lantern Festival, which falls on Wednesday this year.

The pilgrimage route includes stops at a number of temples in Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin and Chiayi, according to Dajia Jenn Lann Temple.
