Wang & Wu Cultural and Educational Foundation's Fast Fluency International Tutoring Program (FFITP) hosted its fifth annual virtual expo on the evening of Friday, May 30th. Started during the COVID-19 pandemic, FFITP has now been operating internationally for five full years — with teachers in the Bay Area and Taiwan working together to coordinate sessions.
VIPs in attendance included Sophia Chuang, Director of the Culture Center at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco (Milpitas), and Anna Wei, Councilmember of the Overseas Community Affairs Committee. FFITP's four lead instructors—Katy Wu, Julian Lung, Nancy Lin, and Sabrina Lu—have worked tirelessly to guide students throughout the program.
The initiative has positively impacted many young students across Taiwan. Notably, Kangning Elementary School has joined the program with ten Taiwanese English instructors (referred to as "senior teachers") who are now actively participating and collaborating with our student teachers in English conversation classes.
The following students were recognized for their outstanding commitment to the program with perfect attendance awards: Eva Hu, Jolene Liu, Ivan Ma, Jeremy Chen, Justin Lo, and Megan Li.
“I believe every student teacher here shares a similar sentiment: we all strongly resonate with the mission of FFITP. For our student teachers in the US, the program offers a meaningful way to continue learning Chinese while also developing leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills through teaching. For the children in Taiwan, it provides an incredible opportunity to interact with peers from the US, build confidence, and improve their English from a young age.”
The twenty-nine high schoolers who participated this year come from nine school districts across the Bay Area. With a high retention rate over the past five years, FFITP looks forward to welcoming returning students this fall, as well as new participants!
