Taipei, June 23 (CNA) The pre-sale of a Premier12 Championship commemorative coin that will be physically distributed in November began Monday and will conclude on July 2, Taiwan's Central Bank has announced.
The central bank will be releasing 36,000 commemorative coins, which will be sold for NT$1,600 (US$53.89) apiece, in celebration of Taiwan's 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12 championship win last year.
Because the Bank of Taiwan is in charge of the sale and distribution of the coin, registration to buy it will be available through the Bank of Taiwan's website or at its branches, except for locations that provide only simple banking services.
The central bank said that should pre-sales exceed the 36,000 coins to be minted, there will be a computer draw on July 3 to determine who the 36,000 lucky purchasers are.
The names will be released at 6 p.m. on July 3 and those who get the chance to buy the coin will have until 3:30 p.m. on July 11 to pay for their purchase. Those who fail to do so by the deadline will forfeit their rights to the commemorative coin.
Those who complete their payment will be able to get their coin or coins at a designated Bank of Taiwan outlet of their choosing in November.
Taiwan's national baseball team made history on Nov. 24, 2024 when it won Taiwan's first gold medal in a world-class national team level tournament after beating Japan 4-0 in the WBSC Premier12 Championship Game at the Tokyo Dome.
The heads side of the coin shows the team's players celebrating with the Premier12 trophy, while the tails side shows the phrase (in English) "Global Champions Premier12" along with its nominal value (NT$50) and the date of the title game (Nov. 24, 2024).
The tails side of the coin also indicates that it is made with a half ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver (Ag999).
