Cars and pedestrians cleared Taipei streets for 30 minutes on Thursday afternoon as part of a civilian crisis response drill. Taiwanese chip giant TSMC reports record-high second quarter profits despite concerns over U.S. tariffs and a stronger New Taiwan Dollar. And activists in Taipei are pressing the labor ministry to improve working conditions of Southeast Asian migrant fishers after a CNN exposé. Also:   

-A cross-strait swimming event between China’s Xiamen and Taiwan’s outlying Kinmen is cancelled after concerns over maritime security rise.  
-Both sides of the mass lawmaker recall ramp up campaign efforts ahead of the July 26 vote.  
-On the ninth day of Taiwan’s annual military exercise, the army uses public areas to practice rearming and refueling.
