Taipei, July 24 (CNA) Taiwan table tennis player Huang Yu-jie (黃愉偼) lost in the final of the women's singles event at the 2025 World University Games in Germany on Thursday.
Huang was defeated 4-0 in straight sets by China's Zhao Shang (趙尚) 11-8, 11-9, 13-11, 11-5-in the final held in Essen. Despite the loss, she still tied the team's best ever result in the category, set by Taiwanese female ace Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) in 2017 in Taipei.
Cheng is currently ranked 13th in the world, according to the ITTF website.
In 2009, Huang Yi-hua (黃怡樺) also earned a bronze medal in the event in Belgrade, Serbia.
The biennial Games are being held in the Rhine-Ruhr region through Sunday. As of press time, Taiwan ranked 11th with 14 medals, including two golds and seven silvers.
