Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) Taiwan will experience relatively cool weather with a chance of rain, particularly in the north and east on Thursday, due to northeasterly winds, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan will be cooler, while the central and southern regions will be slightly warmer during the day, but temperatures there will also drop at night, more sharply in areas south of Hsinchu, the CWA said.
The lowest temperature recorded early Thursday in a low-lying area was 12.5 degrees Celsius in Jhuci Township, Chiayi County, while Tainan's Nanxi District and Gongguan Township in Miaoli County recorded 12.7 degrees, according to CWA data.
Temperatures of 16-25 degrees are forecast Thursday in northern and northeastern Taiwan, 15-27 degrees in central Taiwan, and 18-27 degrees in southern Taiwan, the CWA said.
Intermittent rain is expected in eastern Taiwan and areas north of Taoyuan, including the Greater Taipei area, while central and southern Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to sunny skies, the CWA added.
On Friday and Saturday, as the seasonal northeasterly winds ease, temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan are expected to rise slightly, while cloud systems moving from south to north may bring some brief, localized showers islandwide, the CWA said.
By Sunday, another surge of northeasterly winds is expected to bring cooler weather to northern Taiwan, and sporadic rain is expected in the east, the CWA said.
The weather is likely to turn drier on Monday, before another band of northeasterly winds arrives on Wednesday, sending the mercury down in northern and northeastern Taiwan, while other regions will see cool temperatures at night and early in the morning, according to the CWA.
