Taipei, Feb. 1 (CNA) A group of eight parliamentarians from seven European countries -- Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Ukraine -- arrived in Taiwan Sunday to begin a six-day exchange with senior Taiwanese officials and NGO representatives.
The delegation, led by Žygimantas Pavilionis, deputy chair of the Lithuanian Seimas' Committee on Foreign Affairs, will meet Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), among other officials, during its stay through Friday.
The visit is intended to facilitate exchanges with Taiwanese officials on promoting democratic resilience and building a democratic supply chain between Taiwan and Europe, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The group will also visit a defense ministry-funded think tank and an NGO focused on promoting digital diplomacy, as well as the frontline island of Kinmen, to better understand Taiwan's history and recent developments, MOFA said.
