On February 22, 2026, members of the San Diego Chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-SD) participated in the Lunar New Year festival hosted by San Diego Chinese Academy (SDCA). While the festival brought together families and friends to celebrate with traditional foods, games, and festive decorations, the most significant achievement for FASCA-SD was the leadership development demonstrated through their independently managed booths.

For this event, FASCA students were fully responsible for planning, organizing, and executing both their game and food booths. In the weeks leading up to the festival, student leaders Eileen Wu, Zixi Shen, Arie Ng and Dianne Chen conducted planning meetings, delegated responsibilities, managed budgets, created preparation timelines, and coordinated materials and supplies. The preparation process served as a practical training ground in project management, requiring clear communication, accountability, and strategic coordination.

At the game booth, students managed activities including pinball, human fruit machine, lucky poking board, and boba ball toss. They oversaw operations, coordinated shift rotations, handled prize distribution, and ensured smooth crowd flow throughout the festival.

Simultaneously, the food booth offered a wide variety of traditional items such as meatball soup, Tainan sticky rice, hot grass jelly. With the strong support of parents assisting in preparation, students concentrated on sales management, inventory control, teamwork, and customer service during peak hours.

Importantly, student leadership extended beyond visible operations. After the festival concluded, FASCA members remained on site to dismantle booths, clean the area, and restore the campus facilities. Their commitment to completing the full event cycle—from initial planning to final cleanup—demonstrated a mature understanding of responsibility and teamwork.

Through hands-on execution in a real community setting, FASCA-SD students strengthened their skills in organization, collaboration, communication, and leadership. The Lunar New Year Festival not only celebrated cultural traditions but also provided a meaningful platform for students to develop as capable project leaders prepared to serve their community with professionalism and dedication.
