On August 22, 2026, members of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors – San Diego (FASCA-SD) partnered with Taiwanese American Professionals – San Diego (TAP-SD) for its annual Taiwan Festival at Liberty Station. Through student-led cultural booths and interactive activities, FASCA-SD introduced festivalgoers to the energy and traditions of Taiwanese night markets while giving members opportunities to strengthen their leadership, communication, and service skills.

FASCA-SD created an immersive Taiwanese night-market experience through nine interactive booths featuring traditional games, cultural activities, and hands-on learning. Festivalgoers were invited to participate in a bingo hunt that encouraged them to visit different booths, try activities such as diabolo and jianzi, and test their knowledge through Taiwanese culture trivia. Game booths featuring Balloon Darts and the Chopsticks Game added to the lively night-market atmosphere, while handmade keychains offered another way for visitors to connect with the creativity and spirit of the event.

Throughout the festival, FASCA-SD members took active roles in operating booths, explaining activities, interacting with visitors, and introducing Taiwanese traditions to people of different ages and backgrounds. Rather than simply presenting cultural information, students helped visitors experience Taiwanese culture through participation. Teaching games, answering questions, and encouraging guests to complete the different activities gave members practical opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, and communication skills while serving as cultural ambassadors.

The FASCA-SD booths were part of a larger celebration that also featured Taiwanese street food, cultural performances, and activities organized by community partners. Together, these elements created an environment where visitors could experience multiple aspects of Taiwanese culture while building connections within San Diego’s Taiwanese American community and beyond.

For FASCA-SD members, the event also created an opportunity to strengthen their own understanding of Taiwanese heritage. By teaching cultural traditions to others, students were encouraged to think more deeply about the meaning behind the activities they represented.

“The event allowed us to form deeper connections with our culture since the best way of learning it ourselves is by sharing and teaching it to others,” reflected FASCA-SD member Conor Sung. “The games and booths that we had were not only fun for the community, but for ourselves as well.”

FASCA-SD’s participation in the Taiwan Festival demonstrated how student leadership and cultural service can work together to create meaningful community experiences. By sharing Taiwanese traditions through interactive learning, members not only introduced festivalgoers to Taiwan’s culture but also continued developing the leadership skills and cultural awareness needed to serve as the next generation of community ambassadors.
