A senior Honduran lawmaker has visited Taiwan, marking the first such trip since Honduras cut diplomatic ties with Taipei in 2023 and switched recognition to Beijing. Jorge Cálix, caucus whip of Honduras’ Liberal Party, met with Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung during his visit. Cálix expressed hopes of building on existing cooperation and exploring future opportunities between Taiwan and Honduras. While no official steps have been taken to restore diplomatic relations, the visit comes after Honduran President Nasry Asfura signaled support for renewing ties and reflects growing engagement between Taiwan and some of its former Central American allies.
